Why is 21 million bitcoin the maximum supply? Can it be modified?
Why will we never actually reach 21 million bitcoin? Estimates of bitcoin lost so far. Miners can give themselves less than the subsidy. Satoshis becoming the new default unit.

The cap DOES matter, but only to the value of each one
Still the best content around. Thank you
Hi Andreas, I have a question – could bitcoin migrate to PoS as ethereum is doing in case that PoW becomes problematic (for example quantum computers in 10-20 years or any other reason).
So each Bitcoin is currently 100 Million Satoshi and if they wanted to we could divide each Satoshi further into 100 Nakamotos? Just like 1 Dollar can be divided into 100 cents?
Was the 21,000,000 limit put BECAUSE of the overflow bug that we had in August 2010 ?
Mister Monero head ?
Nervos Network figured out how to fix this
So what happens to Satoshis 10%?
MIT`s Gavin Andresen seeds are germing now GO
Why would the block reward ever end. Halving could continue infinitely, could it not.
Thanks G
also satishis nakamoto bitcoin is something like 1.000.000
Thank you for your answers! I am sure you were thinking like, if some genius has created Bitcoin code, there could be the one that can decode it in the way that it can change this unique feature of scarcity? The whales are doing whatever they want with the price of Bitcoin, are they not? Do you believe that Bitcoin will still be independent even more?
Cheers.
3th or 4th halvening 2020? i thought 3th?
Tenths of a Satoshi….sounds good to me.
I remember seeing some "Bitcoin Expert" on the CBC. He said BTC couldn't work because there could only ever be $21,000,000 worth of Bitcoin in existence. lol Yes, that actually happened.
Andreas, thanks for your explanations! Big hug from Papa Crypto!
Now I learned something new ?
first :p
