  3. Please allow me for the nerds to add a nitpicking addition in which the privacy in lightning can be slightly worse than with regular on chain bitcoin. On the lightning network your overall funds that eventually hit the chain may be linked to your IP address if you used a public node / public channels. This information is broadcasted to other participants of the lightning network via its gossip protocol and can be used by third party to link funds to your identity – for example if they have the ability to link you identity to your IP address. Thus while individual payments have pretty good privacy as Andreas explained your total funds stored on the node might be linked to your identity. This is not the case in bitcoin as you can easily broadcast a transaction from any public internet hotspot. However in Lightning this can be prevented if you use it over TOR or only with private channels.
