On the benefits and challenges with upcoming privacy improvements to Bitcoin. What do you think about Snowden’s comments on privacy in Bitcoin and open public blockchains? What are unspent transaction outputs (UTXOs)? Can you re-anonymise UTXOs from KYC exchanges like Coinbase, by participating in a CoinJoin through wallets such as Wasabi or services such as JoinMarket? Can you use Schnorr signatures do UTXO consolidation? Will governments continue to let privacy coins exist? Will confidential transactions be censored? What will kickstart the evolution towards more privacy and anonymity? Could private transactions be indistinguishable from “normal” transactions? What is the launch schedule for privacy improvements (Schnorr signatures, Taproot, Graftroot)?

CORRECTION: At 6:50, I say that Gregory Maxwell invented CoinJoin. While Maxwell did ‘coin’ the term, the mechanism of CoinJoin was discussed early on by others: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=12751.msg315793#msg315793

  1. Hello Andrea,
Can you please explain how is it possible for an exchange, for example coinbase, to offer custody that will act as savings account and gain crypto interest?
In our current monetary system money made out of thin air and is basically debt. Since crypto can't be printed, how can interest exist?
    Thank you!

  2. Privacy-focused coins will continue to exist and develop continously, many projects sprouting out these days with awesome inventions take for instance, veil this year–young coin with huge growth in sight

  3. Privacy coins will always have backdoors for unlimited coin generation like the multiple backdoors Zooko and his two developers placed inside ZEC to kill all forks of their project.

  4. I understand they will know you have had it, but i guess you could try to say you lost it. To hide it, wouldn't it be fairly simple; create a anonymous (expendable) wallet, use e.g. shapeshift to change it to Monero and in that transaction, send it to the anonymous wallet. Then maybe split it up into other currencies to another (expendable) new wallet and lastly, back to the currency of choice in a final anonymous wallet you'll keep. Every time you make a transfer, it costs a bit in fees, but it might still be cheaper (and safer; they look kind of sketchy) than using a laundry service.

  5. i love listening to Andreas, do you guys know of any other people in the space that are as competent in cryptocurrencies? I know Andreas talks about Bitcoin a lot, maybe other people are as competent but talk about the rest of the ecosystem as a whole.

  6. Do you know imf wants to Implement cbdc emitted by central bank according to Christine Lagarde and she is against privacy things in her last report… What do you think about it? The paper is 'winds of change'

  7. Couldn't they just do 51% network attacks? Example Monero… Monero is controlled by giant bot nets globally. If the governments were to do a 51% network hash , couldn't that destroy Monero?

  9. With the current internet infrastructure there is no real privacy possible. We need a really free, safe and secure internet satellite network for everybody in the world. We are working on AEROGEL SPACECRAFT TESTING PROJECT here in DC to get a very cheap spacecraft which can launch all the tiny satellites around the world to give people free and independent safe and secure internet. Please check it out on my FB and twitter pages under my name.

  10. "When govts come after ___coin…" Is a common and weak argument against cryptocurrency adoption, growth and resiliency.

Will govts be upset? Sure. How will they stop a decentralized solution? Make it illegal?

If that worked, we would have no crime, because the illegality would have by that argument made the act NOT occur in the first place.

Sadly laws do not make undesired action stop.

  11. Lightning will add a layer of anonymity as the tracked transaction, KYC, AML are through the exchange and opening closing of the channel on the blockchain but not the lightning network.?

  12. Lightning, Schnorr, MAST, RSK, Mimblewimble, Dandelion, etc etc all these ongoing Bitcoin developments that are being underestimated right now will be the downfall of most investors. Especially if you worship charts alone. Although TA is a good skill, fundamentals are just as important and often neglected.
