How to Read a Stock Options Chain (Quote)

★ SUMMARY ★
Hey its Sasha Evdakov founder of Rise2Learn and in this video I want to talk about Options and How you can Read an Option Chain.

It’s important you learn how to read an option chain if you’re trying to trade options and probably know already what the basic premise behind options are and what they are and what they do at but you need to know how to read the option chain.

It’s kind of like learning how to read the quotes behind trading stocks and the same thing goes with options. With options they’re a little more complicated. Let me show you exactly how to read an option chain and we’re using Think or Swim platform on Bank of America and I like this platform because lot of people tend to look at it or use it and it fits to pretty much any other platform because it has most things and you can apply it to your trading platform.

  1. you're not really explaining it in a simple way that people can understand. I suggest you clearly define the terms on the chart. eg: Low, High,Open, Volume

  2. Hey quick question if I may…
I am using investopedia simulator to learn option trading…
So, with a 1.5 million portfolio (rode gold up on SAND and CEF, 43% return) Now I feel invincible and want to correct that immediately.lol

im thinking trading SPY to test my iron condor out…lol
Do I want volatility for the day to day?
    maybe the russel index?
what makes for a good target rich target.

  3. hi Sasha , can i sell option put before expiration date ? let say Apple current $100 /s . my strike price at $90 expiration date December, 31,2016. By luck on September, 1 Apple at $80 . so l can sell and profit $10×100 shares= $1000 – $200 contract = $800
I am new never do option trade. I do have an account w/, TD Ameritrate .
    thank you

  4. I love your videos as always Sasha. Your cursor generally stays in the Right-middle part of the screen in this video so it is hard to see where you you are indicating on the screen.

I have to ask, at 10:57 in the video there is a highlighted OTM (I learned OTM from you!) Option. In theory what would have happened if i had bought that call option and then the underlying stock went up thus putting it ITM? (again i learned ITM from you) I know that it goes from having no Intrinsic value to having intrinsic value of $7.76 (i think…1165 – 1157.24 =7.76) Could i sell the option as soon as it went ITM and be in profit?

I love your videos and i am slowly getting through them… Keep up the good work…

  5. Beginner question….if the strike price is say 5.00, bid .1 & ask is .5, I'm going to pay +/-$30 premium (for 100 shares) and then how much for the stock? Not sure i have my premium right either

  6. Hey, I have to agree, there is some great information in this video, but the dark screen coupled with very low mouse movement makes this video really difficult to follow along. It is kind of like being in a library and telling someone the book they want is over there, with out actually pointing in any direction. An update would be a win-win for all of us. New options chains and readability.
