Chainlink is a providing decentralized oracles to make sure on-chain smart contracts can use off-chain data.
This was not possible before. Platforms such as Ethereum and Bitcoin could only use data that was on their own blockchain. Now with Chainlink it will be possible to use any API for smart contracts without the need for it to work on the chain.
