  1. This list is desperately needing a password manager such as lastpass. Securing passwords on a piece of paper is not a safe option. Houses burn down, people lose things, items get damaged. Additionally, this leaves you dependant on taking this with you when you travel, or even leave the house and need to creaete a login or create a login. everything else looks pretty good…

  2. Used to be terms and conditions would read (paraphrasing) "we'll never share your personal info unless we need to (i.e. for a repair job using a contractor)." Now it's "you can't use our service that you already paid for unless you agree to hand over your personal data, and we ARE recording this whether you like it or not."

  3. My solution for keeping passwords is I encrypted them all by hand via an encryption table, then I saved them everywhere – I have them on the computer, 10 places online, so I can always access all of them if I forget them, including seed codes for my crypto accounts.
That way I only need to know one password and dont need to rely on any software or anything

  4. In order for my personal data to be safe, I need to also make sure that all those I communicate with are protected too. Start with simple measures such as those discussed in this video, and then each year as you gain experience and the measures become more routine slowly upgrade and improve your security. Step by step remove the risk and reduce the size of your footprint. Good luck to all!

  5. TruCrypt was an old favorite of mine from the days of Usenet, nym servers, mixmaster and the cypherpunk anonymous remailers. Hal Finney was a maintainer.

But today they recommend VeraCrypt. Supposedly TruCrypt has a privilege escalation weakness aka a backdoor..?

Sadly, TruCrypt is not maintained anymore. ?
