An event is usually something unpredictable and is also usually something that will be fairly easy to correct — meaning the company will be back on track in no time. A DOWNFALL, however, can be a significant turn of events for a business that starts a downward trend in value that just can’t recover. http://bit.ly/33MXiE3

Can you think of any events that put a company that you love on sale? Share your answer below!
Recently the company Premium Brands Holdings Corporation (PBH on the TSX) was hit hard by poor margins due to labour tightness in the US, among other things. The price per share came off of a high of 120 CAD in April 2018 down to a low of just over 70 CAD per share in November 2018. 70-80 CAD per share was a great sale price as conservatively I believe the company is worth about 180 CAD per share. It also pays a steadily increasing dividend, has an excellent management team, and is an investment i feel confident in during this stage of the economic cycle (People still eat during recessions). Since November 2018 the price per share has recovered to 95 CAD per share and they continue to grow revenue and consistently hit on strong guidance targets they have set.
Crazy I was just about to email you on this exact topic.
There’s 2 companies that I like that have been hit but this trade war with china causing restrictions on product sales. This has made the companies revenue dip significantly and future profits look sketchy. One company is now trading at a level I’d love to buy but it feels to speculative at this point.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this if you have any advice?
Thanks.
The often reported "retail apocalypse" fuel by Amazon….Target just jumped over 20% this week
Sadly, what I thought was an event for Vermillion (buying into the oil sands) has turned into a major disaster and now it's too late for me to get out without losing my shirt. Guess I'll be riding this one out in case oil rallies.
The facebook Analytica scandal was a huge event for FB and I was able to buy around $130's.
Most needed?
Investing is so easy…yet so harddddd
Great info. It seems you favor being out of the market for now. Mind sharing what you're invested in currently?
CEO 's are usually very lo key. Do you agree?
Is there a news letter callef Honest CEO's. Ha ha
Nestle India was on sale a few years ago…
Apparently their noodle(Maggie) had unacceptable amount of some toxins, and they were sold all over the country.
Later on, the court said the company is not guilty.
That EVENT gave investors a window of nearly 6 months to fill their trucks with the stock.
The downside was that they had a monopoly on Noodle in India, within the 6 month timeframe, their market share reduced significantly…
Today, they are still trying to be the best Noodle but it's hard with all the competition..
I acutally bought two companies for good value, both during a merger. BMY, that is on its 5 year low and Chemical financial (now TCF). Both of them have good fundamentals. I'm slightly worried about BMY since I do not really know how to evaluate its pipeline and analysists are worried about their blockbuster drugs and relative patents. Until now however, it went well. Phil can you do a video on how to evaluate a merger and what to expect from it?
A company I worked for some years ago fell in price from ca. 130 USD / stock to 5 USD / stock. Looks like a downfall to me.. !
So well said! Shared this video around with some friends.
Election in. Argentina
thanks for the valuable shares. can you please help understand if layman investors are better off investing in index funds during dips rather than attempting to identify good stock opportunities, be it an event or Downfall.
FB last year is good example of an Event and not downfall.
What do you think about TESLA?
Can you make a video on how you value banks and insurance companies if it is any different than MOS/PBT/10CAP methods you use to value other companies? Do you use zombie value methodology to get a discount on the balance sheet assets for these types of financial companies?
What does he mean by" now go play"
We have the stable genius as a perfect event generator.
This is one of the KEY indicators value investors need to know!
Great talk, Phil!
I like Wells Fargo as an event. I see GE as a downfall.
When I think about "Downfalls & Events", I think ENRON and then there was when the SEC discovered Dollar General cooked the books.
Awesome video, thanks!
Phil Town's videos are sensible and helpful. Thx so much.
Very important video for value investors. I'm going to share this with my audience!
Thanks for sharing such valuable information… I love your YouTube channel and your podcast!!!
Keep it up ?
Boeing…
He is awesome…..just came from the 3-day workshop and was transformed…learned how to evaluate a business… the 4ms and the 5growth rates invest with certainty this is not Vegas
Great video! I'd like to hear your opinion on ESPPs (employee stock purchase programs). I am currently in one with 10% of my salary, and I am struggling to keep my portfolio balanced the way I want. I get a lot of exposure to my own company, and I don't feel like selling it off as it is current making good profits…
This is some of the best investment advice I've ever heard.
Starbucks went on sale from that bad publicity last year. Since then it’s been up almost 100%
Buffet failed to see DOWNFALL with holdings in KHC, TEV and failed to see an opportunity in CMG with an EVENT
Wow I was just thinking about it because I am not sure if heinz on the event or downturn
What is your opinion on heinz kraft stock downfall? A bust or an opportunity?
Best finance channel around. Good on ya phil
I wish I bough FB in 2018 when the share price dropped nearly 50%…
BREXIT and Legal & General
Any thoughts on GE’s current “event”?
Got BTC on 2.april on sale .. 260% in 2 monts
How long does recessions last usually?
Thank you, Phil, for sharing this wonderful information!
