If you still think manmade global warming will kill us all I can highly recommend considering the arguments in the documentary "The great global warming swindle" for yourself. re bitcoin killing the planet. nobody's mentioning the most obvious thing, which is that over the coming years as adoption rises the vast majority of transactions will be made off-chain on lightning network, meaning close to zero carbon emissions for the vast majority of bitcoin use.

The emissions numbers for bitcoin you showed were from 2015. Bitcoin mining and usage was, in 2017, emitting an estimated 69 MtCO2e. Still doesn't justify the FUD imo. Just thought I'd point out you might need a better source 😉

Thats a ridiculous statement to make that Bitcoin is predicated to be the nail in the coffin for climate change. However, we cannot escape the fact that POW is very resource hungry and an inefficient way of creating new blocks for the chain.

Due to this, my view is that POW algorithms are unsustainable for the future and will be superseded by other Protocols using Proof of Stake. If Cardano successfully delivers its decentralised POS algorithm early 2019, then I can see this project move up the ranks and establish itself as the firm leader within the space.

Just remember, climate change, former known as global warming, it's because of only western society, climate cycles, the sun's activity, the planetary ocean, Asia…, cutting the forests in socialist countries in South America, no one of those matter.

The numbers of energy consumption (0.6 million tonnes CO2) are from 2014. There are sources stating that we are at 35 million tonnes CO2 in 2018 (https://bit.ly/2vAdzdl). It definitely is an issue.
